The Propeller Club United States - Port of Savannah is comprised of over 240 individuals representing more than 75 organizations in the Savannah maritime community.
The Propeller Club was conceived in 1922 and organized in 1923 in New York, New York. On November 7th, 1927, the Propeller Club of the United States was formed, with individual member clubs designated as "Ports." The Port of Savannah, Port No. 23, was organized in February 1933.
The membership comprises a cross section of the marine, maritime, and associated industries throughout the United States and in many cities overseas. "Propeller" in the name refers to the propulsion of ships, and is symbolic of the driving force of the nation's heavily-maritime-reliant economy.
The membership of the Port of Savannah counts individuals from the following types of organizations as members:
Admiralty Law Firms Customs Brokers Educators Federal, State, and Local Government Agencies Freight Forwarders Harbor and River Pilots Maritime-related Service Providers Maritime Towing Companies Motor Carriers Steamship Lines Stevedoring Firms Terminal Operators Transportation Service Providers Warehouse Operators
Our organization of 200+ members, represents over 75 firms and organizations in the Savannah area.
Each month, we gather for luncheons featuring a guest speaker. Annual events include the State of the Port Address co-sponsored by the Georgia Ports Authority, a winter oyster roast, National Maritime Day and Week functions in May, and sending of delegates to the Propeller Club national convention.
We also provide assistance to the award-winning Student Port chapter at Georgia Southern University, and fund an annual scholarship to a GSU student in the Logistics and Intermodal Transportation program.
