Membership, Meetings and events
Each month, we gather for luncheons featuring a guest speaker. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at The Pirates' House Restaurant, located in downtown Savannah. The meeting format traditionally features a half-hour of hospitality commencing at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch and then the guest speaker.

 

Annual events include the State of the Port Address co-sponsored by The Georgia Ports Authority, a winter oyster roast, Maritime Day and Week functions in May, and sending of delegates to the Propeller Club national convention.

 

We normally do not schedule activities in the summer months of June, July and August.

 

Propeller Club membership is $220/year and includes all meeting costs. Applicants must be sponsored by two members.  Applications may be obtained from any officer or board member, or downloaded from the Propeller Club website.

 

Prospective members may attend Propeller Club activities by contacting secretary@propellerclubsavannah.com and paying the guest fee.

 

Gus Dubus Scholarships

We also provide financial assistance to the award-winning Student Port chapter at Georgia Southern University, and fund annual scholarships to GSU students in the Logistics and Intermodal Transportation program and to other college students from the area studying to obtain a degree and seek a career in the Maritime Industry.  

 

Three Annual Scholarships in the amount of $1000/- each are offered to deserving applicants who meet with the qualifying criteria as described in the application form.

 

Our scholarships are in honor and recognition of Gustave Robert Dubus, III ("Gus"), a maritime lawyer in Savannah for over twenty-five years, practicing as a partner in the firm of Chamlee, Dubus & Sipple.  Gus was a member and president of The Propeller Club of the Port of Savannah and spearheaded, along with others, the Propeller Club of the United States national convention in Savannah in the 1980's.  Gus was a graduate of Washington and Lee University and the University of Georgia Law School. Gus' law practice consisted of representation of shipowners and vessel underwriters in all types of maritime cases.  He was a member of The Maritime Law Association of the United States and the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute.  Gus was well known and highly respected in the maritime community.
